Aha!
So back to Görlitz!
A couple of weeks ago, I told you that I went to a tiny little city in East Germany, called Gorlitz!
We were most impressed.
But what really got my juices flowing, was the fact that Görlitz was on the border of Poland!
In fact, it’s so close, that you merely have to walk across a single bridge and you’re right there.
In Poland!
We adore Poland, so I decided to see what all the fuss was about.
In doing so, I reached out to the lovely people at Stadt Görlitz, who very kindly offered to show us around.
We were not disappointed.
I mean.
Wow!
People have been …
And by people, I mean everyone!
EVERYONE has been coming here, as it’s the most preserved city in Germany that was (luckily), untouched by both World Wars!
So we were able to really get our teeth into everything around us, and one of those things to do, was a bus tour around town, on the Görliwood Entdecker / Gorliwood Explorer!
Haw! Haw!
You don’t have to ask me twice when it comes to bus rides, but what was most interesting was that it wasn’t your typical bus tour, but a city tour for history enthusiasts and film fans.
Film fans you say?
Yep!
Let me through!
Would you believe that Görlitz is often used by Hollywood and other film production companies to depict Europe, North America, and other parts of the world!
In fact, Görlitz has 4,000+ architechtural monuments spanning the last 500 years and is known locally as not Hollywood, but Görliwood!
I know!
It’s a bit cheesy, but it does the job ‘cos Görlitz was first used as a film location just 60 years ago and since then has been voted Europe’s best film location of the decade and picked up so many awards.
And Oscars!
With films such as:
Be still my beating heart!
In fact, I’ve actually met Wes Anderson at the Berlinale in Berlin!
He was really nice, and took a photo with me.
Top guy!
Tickets are €9 – €13.00. For more info, Click Here!
Many Thanks to Stadt Görlitz and Görliwood Entdecker.
See you soon!
