A lifestyle expat travel blog about culture, history, Brexit, the Royal Family, travels around the world, Europe, and being British in Berlin!
Happy New Year everyone!
It’s official.
It’s 2022!
Gosh!
I wanted to write about so many things in December 2021, but it was my birthday month.
And so I picked December to work on one of the new ventures that I mentioned recently …
If you follow me on LinkedIn, you’ll already know what it is or if you take a peek here, you’ll be able to guess!
Who could have predicted that 2021 would be, if not exactly worse, but certainly not the year that we expected?
I certainly didn’t!
And just when we thought things might be getting better, Europe exploded with a fourth (4th) wave of Covid infection, travel bans were re-introduced, and a new covid variant – Omicron – was found.
It was quite depressing!
If only we knew.
Gaa!
As I work for an Engineering / Information Technology company, I’m lucky enough to be able to work from home.
But what else did I do in 2021?
I’m an avid bookworm and I Iove to read both eBooks and physical books, because …
There is a splinter of ice in the heart of a writer – Graham Greene
A splinter of ice
Oops!
Here’s how to read lots of books for free, or for peanuts!
I did a lot of learning and self-improvement!
And even though I didn’t actually write about it, I did travel quite a bit.
Because.
I.
AM.
SO.
BEHIND.
IN.
MY.
WRITING!
In fact, I still have to give you more details about:
And I went there back in 2019!
I haven’t even told you about the fun we had in Norway.
In the winter of 2020!
I began to lose a little bit of momentum when my dad died in the summer of 2019, and never really got my writing rhythm back, but I make no apologies, as the death of a parent can’t be easily pushed aside, no matter how much we want it to.
In 2020, I told you a little about Insel Rügen / the island of Rügen and the road trip to Bodensee / Lake Constance.
I also shared with you our anxiety when we ended up in the midst of the horrific floods in Germany!
But did I tell you about the day-trip to Austria or the hikes in Saxon Switzerland?
What about our travels to Schwarzwald / the Black Forest, the river Rhine, the ancient Roman city of Trier, and the Mosel River / Moselle Region in South Germany?
Have I even mentioned our trip to the Nordsee / North Sea?
I don’t believe I have!
And don’t get me started on the many Berlin day trips to the neighbouring towns, villages, lakes, farms, forests and national parks of:
And so many other destinations that we visited, practically every weekend!
In fact, we swathed ourselves in lots of fresh countryside air, and because we live in North Berlin, much of the surrounding countryside is a mere 30 minutes away, or less!
I hope to share all these exciting stories with you but I confess, I’ve just been so busy.
I know.
It’s tragic!
So this is it.
This is my New Year Promise to you all.
To once again, publish new content every week.
I’ll try my very best.
Promise!
To give you a sense of pleasure, I’d like to remind you of all the beautiful places that you can travel to, when the time is right.
Follow me on a journey to countries that I have recently travelled to … and how you can get there too.
Do let me know what you think.
See you soon.
