A lifestyle expat travel blog about culture, history, Brexit, the Royal Family, travels around the world, Europe, and being British in Berlin!

OMG!
What is happening to the world?
Just when we thought things might be getting better, Europe exploded with a fourth (4th) wave of Covid infection practically everywhere.
Travel bans have been re-introduced.
Another Covid variant – Omicron – has been found.
Boris Johnson looks like a bumbling fool.
This is the most deadpan takedown of Boris Johnson’s vroom-vroom/Peppa Pig speech to the CBI you’ll see.

People are worried that the Queen might die.
And Christmas is fast approaching!
Gaa!
It’s November!
Now remember when I said that I had taken up two new ventures?
Well, actually, there are three (3)!
I don’t feel like writing about them at the moment, but if you follow me on LinkedIn, you’ll already know one of them!
If not, you’re going to have to wait!
Will we ever travel again?

So back to the topic at hand.
Will we ever travel again?
And to answer that question
Sure!
But will it be the same?
No.
Of course not!
Travel will be different.
In fact, it already is!
It won’t be easy to visit exotic destinations.
It won’t be easy to visit regular destinations.
And with all the restrictions that individual nations and airlines request, it won’t be easy to simply look for the cheapest flight, go to the airport, and fly!
There’s a lot to think about.
Is this the best way to get from A to B?
Should I be flying?
Should I use public transport?
What if I get sick?
What if I make others around me sick?
What about climate change?
What about Brexit?
What if my hotel, apartment or villa is closed down?
Should I simply not bother, and camp in my back garden?
The honest truth is, the way things are going, we’re probably thinking of 2023 before things get back to “normal!”
Now just because things have become a little complicated, doesn’t mean that you can’t travel at all.
Of course you can.
But in a different way.
Or perhaps at a different time, when you least expect it!
In fact, I actually managed to squeeze a couple of days in early November myself!
I travelled to England!
Before it all went crazy!
But it wasn’t without it’s pitfalls.
I don’t know if you remember.
But due to the pandemic, I haven’t seen my family in two and a half (2.5) years!
So that’s a bloody long time!
The last time I saw them was when my dad died, so it wasn’t a happy event at the time, and it certainly wasn’t a holiday!
I had originally planned to combine my 2021 trip to the UK with one of the ventures I mentioned above, but I was so worried and anxious, that I cancelled my hotel and my KLM flight to Bristol!
But!
But what to do?
I really wanted to see my brother!
And also.
He’s just written a new book – The Curse of The Deadly Marshmallows!
So I booked a last-minute flight to Manchester, and opted to visit my family in Cheshire, over a long weekend instead!
And I’m so glad that I did!
I’ll write more about what happened in the next few weeks!

Ah yes, travel.
Obviously, you don’t have to ever hop on a plane if you’re that way disposed, as travel is what YOU say it is.
Travel can be:
By train
By bus
By car
By bicycle
It can be a staycation
In your own country
In your own city / town / suburb, village
Or simply your own backyard!
Okey Dokey.
Meanwhile, to make you feel better, I’d like to remind you of all the beautiful places that you can travel to, via reading my blog, or when the time is right, going there yourself.
Or not!
Follow me on a journey to countries that I have recently travelled to …
Do let me know what you think.
See you soon.

In regards to travel, I feel especially sorry for people who soon will be unable to venture to do so anymore – be it to old age or failing health. Hopefully they took the chance well enough while they could.
Thanks Frank!
I totally understand.
I hope so too as “waiting until later,” isn’t as reliable as it used to be …
