Isn’t it marvellous. I’m just in my fourth week and going into the fifth Sunday and I’ve been nominated for a Liebster Award. What an honour.
What is a Liebster Award?
A Liebster Award is a blog reward believed to have taken birth in my new home-land – Germany! “Die Liebster” in German means sweetheart, my love or dearest and is a world-wide nomination for up-and-coming bloggers with less than 200 followers.
I was nominated for this award by Jess from Turquoise Compass
Thank you so much Jess. Turquoise Compass is a lovely blog about travels, adventures and fulfilling your dreams; whatever they may be.
The Rules of the Award are:
-Link to the person who nominated you
-Answer their questions
-Nominate new blogs for the award
-Ask them 10 new questions
-Let the nominees know they have been nominated
The questions were:
1. Where is your favourite turquoise destination?
Well, I see that most of the turquoise trips seem to be in the Americas so I’d say my favourite is the good ol’ US of A. I wasn’t expecting to have as good a time as we did!
2. What is your worst nightmare?
Sheep in the basement. Don’t ask!
3. What is your top bucket list item?
To get a Phd.
4. What turquoise destination are you dying to visit?
In the Americas, any country with a fascinating ancient history and culture. I like the old stuff.
5. What are you most proud of?
My son and my husband.
6. Who is your role model and why?
Every woman who went against the system and lived their lives the way they wanted to live them, against all the odds of their society.
7. What is the scariest thing you have ever done?
Having my son. Naturally and without intervention. In water. ‘Best thing ever!
8. What did you do nice for someone this week?
I gave an old woman some money on the train even though others ignored her and then stared at me.
9. What is the one thing you regret?
I live in Germany. I speak German. I am the British Berliner however, I regret not taking German as a foreign language earlier as a teenager. I did it for a year at school , then lost interest. Well, how was I supposed to know that I would later live here….!
10. What is your favourite winter tradition?
Going to the German Christmas markets. I live in Berlin and there are many gorgeous Xmas markets here. Every year, my friends and I spend 6 weeks trying to go to as many of the markets as we can, drink glüwein (mulled wine), eat green cabbage, sausages and mustard, eat stollen (Xmas currant and sultana cake covered in castor sugar), and generally have a merry old time.
O.K. Enough about me. As per the rules, I have to nominate other up and coming bloggers so I nominate the lovely people below:
spend your days A very interesting all-rounder blog. Very nice!
Strullersuppe A vegan lifestyle blog. In German. A really innovative young woman. She cooks. She creates. She organises, and she’s got a million tatoos too!
Anja’s little situation Anja is a young lady that both my husband and myself used to do improvisation theatre with. She’s going through a life-threatening illness at the moment and is courageously brave.
Because I’m new at this game. I’ve only got the three names but perhaps, I’ll add more later in the year.
Right, here are my 10 questions:
What’s your favourite smell?
What do the clothes you wear, say about you?
What was the last electrical item you threw away and why?
Half-full or half-empty?
What language would you like to learn and why?
Have you ever been to the Red Sea?
if you could be an insect, what insect would you be and why?
Name the most disgusting meal that you have ever had?
Complete this sentence: Queen Elizabeth II is…….?
That’s it for now. Next week, a return to Scotland ginger hops and a deep fried chocolate mars bar!
Have you had a bloggers award, been nominated for an award or even rejected one?
Spill the beans!

Yes, the first time is the best time! When I received my first award (like you, I was only a couple weeks into blogging) I was ecstatic! You deserve it! Keep up the great posts and thanks for the kind mention.
Jess
You’re very welcome. I’m looking up to you guys as great blogger role models and I’m also aiming to stay consistent. Publishing once a week at the moment as an academic paper is beckoning once again…!
Thanks so much for the compliment. Yes it is great to put yourself on a schedule and once you get used to published you can post more content. I started with 3-4 posts per week and now I am doing 6-7 posts per week.
Wow! I definitely couldn’t do that! I’m at full capacity already: teaching, mentoring, academics, Boy Scouts, trying to develop artistically somewhat, the cat, the garden, travelling, and not to talk of being a wife and mother. I’m on a full schedule LOL!
Wow, I guess you are! I have more time on my hands since I took a year off from my teaching position to travel! I started the blog at the beginning of my journey. It has been an amazing journey.
Congrats on the Liebster Award! It’s a nice honor to be recognized by your blogger peers.
Thank you Filbio. I was very pleased. Slightly overwhelmed, but pleased!

Yay, congratulations!! From what I’ve seen so far, you definitely deserve the accolades! 🙂 And thank you so very much for nominating me in return! Apologies in advance for the longest comment known to man, but here are my answers: 1. Japan- Just visited a beautiful Japanese garden in Oregon and would love to see the real thing! 2. Favorite smell is my husband’s aftershave. Cheesy, I know, but the truth. 3. I love neon sneakers, faux fur, prairie skirts, and sequins. I think that says “I’m confused.” 4. I had a cell phone stolen recently while walking the Brooklyn Bridge… does that count? 5. The glass is always, obnoxiously half-full! 😀 6. I want to speak Spanish fluently- I know enough to converse but with my Spanish surname, it’s embarrassing not to be perfectly fluent! Why oh why didn’t I let my dad teach me when I was a child?! 7. Never been to the Red Sea, but it’s on the list! 8. I’d be a rhinoceros beetle. Because they’re kind of amazing. 9. Durian fruit is the most disgusting thing I’ve ever put in my mouth. And I’ve eaten bugs. On purpose. 10. Queen Elizabeth II is… a woman who knows her hats.
Thank you so much Miranda, everyone has been realy nice and supportive. So cool. Your answers really made me smile.
1.I would love to go to Japan too but I’ve got to get the family to Thailand and Indonesia first!
2.Well, but of course. I buy my husbands’ aftershave ‘cos I love using it too (Hugo Boss & Calvin Klein). Not too masculine!
3.I’m loving the clothing style: Bright is always right in my dictionary!
4.Sorry about your phone. Yeah, it counts!
5.I’m not surprised.
6.Go for it. It’s never too late. I used to be able to understand a bit of Czech and Polish. “Used to”, being the snag here. Now, its just a fusion of the both but I’ll get back to it one day.
7.Floating in salt is all the rage now didn’t you know!
8.Sounds amazing.
9.Well, what can I say!
10.That’s right. The Queen is a babe!
